Acupuncture
An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of extremely fine, paper-thin stainless steel needles into precise points on the body. The combination of points are prescribed based on the pattern of imbalance determined by the practitioner.
For most people, acupuncture is painless. Some people describe the sensation to be heavy and calming. In most situations, the practitioner will gently stimulate the needles to stimulate “Da-qi”, which translates to receiving energy.
Acupuncture aims to improve the body’s normal physiological functions and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomical sites–commonly referred to as acupuncture points or acupoints. Modern medical research has demonstrated acupuncture’s effects on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular systems, and digestive systems. By stimulating the body’s various systems, acupuncture can help resolve pain, anxiety, and digestive function, improve sleep, and promote a lasting sense of well-being both during and after treatments.
The most common method used to stimulate acupoints is the insertion of extremely fine, sterile needles into the skin. Additionally, pressure, heat, or electrical stimulation may be coupled with acupuncture to enhance its bio-stimulatory effects further. Other acupoint stimulation techniques include manual massage, moxibustion or heat therapy, cupping, and the application of topical herbal medicines and ointments.
About Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. These points, known as acupoints, are believed to be connected to a network of energy channels called meridians.
